Oliver & Boyd, 1950
Cover lightly marked, and some of the pages marked too, corners rubbed - a Good hardback. 424 pages. B/w photos and illustrations. A classic in the genre of mountaineering books. The author describes, in friendly fashion, first the technique for and then examples of climbing in Scottish mountain regions like Skye, Arran and, of course, Ben Nevis, with evocative headings like "The Chasm of Buchaille Etive Mor"; and then he goes on to follow the same process for Alpine mountains, including Chamonix, the Jungfrau and the Matterhorn, amongst other peaks.

10 Masefield, G.B. et al The Oxford Book of Food Plants
OUP, 1969
Fair hardback in torn but bright d/w. This is an ex-library book, and well-read. Page edges are grubby and rubbed and there are lots of library stamps about the place, including, irritatingly, on some of the beautiful colour plates. The d/w too has some ugly labels on it. However, the book is, despite all this, fairly attractive in a shabby sort of way and, in any case, the contents are what count in this fabulous series. 206 pages and filled with wonderful colour plates by B.E. Nicholson. This title describes "the plants which serve the human race for food" and covers everything from cereal crops to nuts and spices. Just a pity about the condition.
