Think this is a first edition - pencil inscription on front endpaper with Autumn 1926 would tend to confirm it. Spine rubbed at top and bottom, bumping and a small tear also in front boards (see photograph), some light foxing - a Good hardback. 177 pages. Gorgeous woodcuts by Robert Gibbings.

The author modestly states in the preface that "this book will have no scientific value". This is instead a very personal book, arranged around the advance of the year, with chapters such as "January: Early Song" and "June and July: From Full to Least Song". A delight.
